Gdańsk or Danzig? Wikinews gets confused

Posted by: Michał In: links

You know how some people will never call Derry Londonderry. They have their reasons. Editors should know it. Wikinews editors should know it too. They should also know that some people will never accept another name for Gdańsk than Gdańsk. Particularly when they are Polish. And why would they? After all that is its name [...]

Polish police in North Wales?

Posted by: Michał In: links

Every now and then there’s a story about the need to recruit someone with good Polish to help the allegedly ever-growing Polish communities in various parts of the UK. You’ve heard of Polish nurses, doctors, etc. Now it’s allegedly time for Polish policemen. North Wales police has considered recruiting officers from Poland to help deal [...]

The longest sausage is no longer Polish

Posted by: Michał In: feeeed me!|links

Don’t you just hate it when you’re beaten at your own game? Looks like Poland has just lost another claim to fame. I was away and quite busy over the past few days, and only just noticed tonight while on the Tube home a storm brewing on the [...]

Posted by: Michał In: links

I was too busy over the weekend (pre-Xmas gathering of friends in Hampshire, great food, lovely companion) to realise The Observer had a nice piece on Kraków and its annual exhibition of the best Christmas cribs in the main square. In fact, the cribs were just an excuse for a page-long piece on how to [...]

Violen’s Photography

Posted by: Michał In: links|photography

As you’ve probably noticed, my blog automatically displays random pictures from Flickr, tagged with the word ‘Poland’. These are not my pictures, although sometimes I wish they were. And through this small Flickr plugin I discovered the amazing photography of a Poland-based woman who calls herself Violen. Her Violen’s Photography Flickr photostream is a joy [...]
