Basia is back

Posted by: Michał In: cultural beast

Matt Bianco fans have a reason to be cheerful this autumn. Basia, whose voice is familiar to anyone who in the early 1980s danced to Whose Side Are You On?, is back with a new album. (Oh, ok, the album was released a few months ago, but I only just listened to it for the [...]

Robert Kusmirowski’s Bunker @ The Barbican

The cultural autumn in London will have a distinctly Polish flavour. And you don’t even need to look far. A new Polish movie called ‘Tricks’ is on general release now and it’s getting good reviews. Dulwich Picture Gallery is having an exhibition called The Polish Connection. This from their website: In 1790 the last King [...]

Wycinanki at the Horniman Museum

Quite a few good Polish cultural events are taking place in London this autumn. I’ll have more details nearer the date (mid-September). Although when I say ‘the biggest I actually mean the most controversial [...]

Today’s anniversary (read more about it here and leave your comments too!) prompted one of the largest Polish portals, Gazeta.pl to launch a couple of unique services. The first one is called ‘A postcard from Poland’ and is a massive collection of photographs depicting what Poles were doing today at midday, twenty day after the [...]

Polish music: Justyna Steczkowska

Posted by: Michał In: cultural beast

I haven’t posted any music for a while, but earlier today came across an artist I used to like some time ago, Justyna Steczkowska. I haven’t heard her latest music, but if the newest video is an indication of her current musical preferences, I don’t think I’m interested. Her older stuff is much more interesting. [...]

Good news if you live in the UK and want to experience more Polish culture locally. For the next year cities all over Britain will participate in an initiative called Polska! Year. According to the organisers’ website, The purpose of the Year is to bring communities of Poland and Great Britain closer by strengthening cultural [...]
