Mr. Fry actually responded to me on Twitter when I posted my thoughts there. I was very surprised that he did, actually. My respect for the man have increased even more.

I think it was very courageous of Mr. Fry to address this mistake in such a public and personal way. Not many people would have taken the time nor put in the effort to make such a true and comprehensive apology.

I do believe that what he said was a mistake – simply an unthought-out slip of the tongue. I find it difficult to imagine him purposely going out of his way to deliberately ridicule any group or to cause a public stir.
