If you, like me, have become addicted to Spotify, the brilliant new music service which allows you to create and share free collaborative playlists, you may enjoy this.
The link below is the Polski Blog’s ‘Best of Polish Music’ playlist (thanks Kai for the idea) which you can open (using Spotify, of course), listen to and modify. I guess if we all keep adding to it our favourite Polish tracks we find on Spotify, it’ll become less subjective than it currently is and more representative of what Polish music people actually listen to.
I’ve started the playlist by adding some well known artists – both old and new – just to give those who want to discover some Polish music an idea of what it actually is. It’s a wide cross-section of artists – from the new wave sound of the 80s cult group Republika, through the rock-jazz poets Raz Dwa Trzy to Kayah’s soulful voice (and funky performance for MTV Unplugged) and Myslovitz’s English version of their biggest hit.
In a few cases the lyrics are in English, but to be honest I don’t necessarily think it does them any justice.
Curious to see what you think. Hope you can use Spotify as it’s not available in all countries.
Enjoy the music then and let your friends know about the playlist too:

PS. If you’re into classical music, I’m also working on another collaborative Polish classical playlist, so check back soon for a link.
