Polish music: Czesław Śpiewa

Posted by: Michał In: cultural beast

And now for something completely… quirky. Czesław śpiewa (Czesław Sings) is a one-man band by a 29-year-old Pole, Czesław, who left Poland as a kid and settled in Denmark with his parents.

He recently returned to Poland and now lives in Kraków, which probably inspires his quirky blend of rock, cabaret, folk and whatever else.

Czesław still plays with his Danish group called Tesco Value (!) and his recently released debut CD became one of the most popular records of 2008 in Poland. The lyrics to some of his songs were co-written by internet users in Poland, who contributed via a website.

The video below, ‘Maszynka do świerkania’, has won two awards – for the best non-English vid at Crave Fest 2008 in Canada and a viewers’ award at Yach Film festival in Gdańsk.

Thanks for that. Not late at all, this blog is not about chasing trends :) Besides, good music never grows old.
