Fresh Polish music: Oszibarack

Posted by: Michał In: cultural beast

A couple of weeks ago I gave my old Polish friend Joanna a task – find me some Polish music, but surprise me. (After all she’s still in Poland and knows what’s cool.) No shitty meowing, no boring old fart recycling the same stuff over and over again.

And she came back with this: Oszibarack. Wowzers. Pleasantly surprised. Don’t know a thing about them, apart from what I’ve read on their site and MySpace page:

Oszibarack, a band from Wroclaw came to being in 2004 formed by four musicians: dj Parisia (renowned frontmen of the band Husky), Agim – producer and composer, drummer Zmazik and bassisi Tomek. Their career started by lending the song “SKIRTS UP!” for a tv commercial advertising cell phones. Soon the song came out as a single.

And here’s the song:

But I really like this one:

Thanks Joanna!

They are brilliant. I met them in Budapest this summer when they played on Sziget Fesztival – really quality music! Very happy and innovative. Nice people too! Well welcomed in Budapest with their Hungarian name of the band (’Osszibarack’ means ‘peach’) – gossip says it comes from a name of a juice they had on their table when thinking of the band’s name. Wonder if that’s true:)

here’s something:

An all girl band from Vancouver called E.S.L.

The singer/pianist/songwriter is Polish born and raised, now living in Canada. E.S.L. means English as a Second Language, an English Language program for immigrants.

They’re all classically trained musicians and best friends.
Amazing live.
