Zakopower

Posted by: Michał In: cultural beast

AKA the band with the hottest singer in Poland (not my words).

Zakopower is a relatively new band, formed in 2005 by Sebastian Karpiel-Bułecka (second from the left), who was born in Zakopane (hence the name), Polish capital of winter sports. They quickly became popular as their music combines ever-popular in Poland folk as performed by the Polish highlanders with very energetic, modern dance elements.

I quite liked their last week’s performance during the Presidential Gala in Warsaw’s Grand Theatre to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Poland’s indepencence:

Here’s another clip, one of their ‘classic songs, ‘Galop’:

There’s so much to choose from this weekend, it’s going to be hard to know what to pick, but for a real taste of Poland, make Zakopower one of your choices ! Absolutely not to be missed ! Trust me.
