Meet Anna Maria Jopek and Pat Metheny

Posted by: Michał In: cultural beast

I’m glad to report that more and more quality Polish music is being released in the UK. The Guardian recently reviewed Anna Maria Jopek and Pat Metheny’s ‘Upojenie’ CD, which has just – six years after its Polish debut – been released in the UK.

People have always been a bit ambivalent about her. There have always been those who loved her music for being so gentle, yet jazzy, so sensual and ethereal and soothing, yet flirty and catchy. (Of course, her looks helped too).

Then again, there have always been those who despised her angelic looks, her equally good-looking presenter husband, Marcin Kydryński, their yummy mummy (and daddy) aura, but in the end only the music counts. And wich each album Anna Maria Jopek confirmed her position as one of the best Polish jazz (but not only) singers. And the Pat Metheny collaboration I guess only sealed this position.

I knew she had a universal appeal when my British friends kept coming back from Poland with her CDs and waxed lyrical about her music. Are you a fan? if so, I’d love to know what you think about her. If not, here’s a sample:

And one of my favourites, this time without without Pat:

Wow, this is awesome I love the singer and the songs (even though I don’t know Polish :) )

I’ve been a Pat Metheny fan since uni days in the late 1980′s, and I do have to admit the attraction of the album for me is going to be the fact that he’s on it.
